Peculiar Enterprises Limited and WandeChap Microfinance Sign Strategic Partnership to Unlock Business Financing Through SmartBusiness

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania  - 26 June 2026

Peculiar Enterprises Limited has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with WandeChap Microfinance to introduce a new financing opportunity for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) through the SmartBusiness platform.

Beginning July 2026, eligible SmartBusiness customers will be able to apply for business financing directly through SmartBusiness and receive funding from WandeChap Microfinance to support inventory purchases, business expansion, and operational growth.

This partnership is expected to empower up to 15,000 businesses in Tanzania that are actively using SmartBusiness, creating a large-scale impact in improving access to working capital for SMEs.

This marks an important shift in how SME financing is delivered, moving from traditional collateral-based lending toward a model driven by real business performance data.

Solving One of the Biggest Challenges Facing SMEs

Across Tanzania and many African markets, access to financing remains one of the biggest barriers preventing small businesses from growing.

Many entrepreneurs operate profitable businesses but still struggle to secure formal financing because traditional loan processes often require:

  • Physical collateral such as land, vehicles, or fixed assets
  • Long banking history and formal financial statements
  • Complex documentation requirements
  • Lengthy approval timelines
  • Limited visibility into actual day-to-day business performance

As a result, thousands of businesses remain underfunded, unable to restock inventory, expand operations, hire talent, or capture new market opportunities despite having healthy customer demand.

At the same time, lenders face another challenge: evaluating businesses with limited formal records.

This creates a financing gap where good businesses remain invisible to financial institutions.

Turning Business Data Into Business Opportunity

The partnership between Peculiar Enterprises Limited and WandeChap Microfinance introduces a different approach.

Instead of focusing primarily on collateral, financing decisions will leverage business performance data generated through SmartBusiness.

By consistently using SmartBusiness to manage sales, inventory, customers, expenses, and operations, businesses gradually build a digital business profile that helps demonstrate how the business performs over time.

To qualify for financing, businesses will generally need to:

  • Use SmartBusiness actively for at least three (3) months
  • Maintain sufficient business activity records within the platform
  • Meet WandeChap Microfinance’s internal lending assessment criteria

This approach creates a pathway where responsible business management becomes an asset.

Financing Designed for Real Business Needs

The new financing model supports different business growth scenarios.

Inventory Financing

For inventory and stock purchases, approved financing will be paid directly to suppliers.

This structure is designed to:

  • Improve stock availability
  • Reduce working capital pressure
  • Help businesses respond faster to customer demand
  • Improve confidence between suppliers and borrowers

By paying suppliers directly, businesses can access inventory without requiring upfront capital.

Business Expansion Financing

For broader growth initiatives, approved financing may be disbursed directly to businesses.

Expansion financing may support:

  • Opening new branches
  • Increasing operating capacity
  • Purchasing business equipment
  • Scaling production
  • Improving service delivery

Creating a More Inclusive Financial Ecosystem

This partnership is more than a lending initiative.

It represents a broader vision of building a business ecosystem where entrepreneurs who manage their businesses digitally gain greater access to financial opportunities.

When businesses maintain accurate operational records:

  • Financing decisions become faster and more informed
  • Businesses can improve financial discipline
  • Lenders gain better visibility into business health
  • Entrepreneurs spend less time preparing manual documentation

Over time, this model has the potential to reduce financing barriers and unlock growth for businesses that have historically been underserved.

Looking Ahead

Loan applications and disbursements under this partnership are expected to officially begin from July 2026.

Detailed information regarding eligibility requirements, application procedures, and financing guidelines will be announced through SmartBusiness channels before launch.

Peculiar Enterprises Limited and WandeChap Microfinance remain committed to empowering SMEs with technology-enabled financial access and creating new opportunities for sustainable business growth.

Manage your business. Build your business profile. Unlock growth opportunities.
